DIOR: “OF ONE’S-SELF I SING” CREATIVE BRIEF
DIOR’S 'ROSE KABUKI', a rich floral fragrance for women and men, transports us into the esoteric world of the traditional Japanese theater form known as Kabuki, in which the roles of exquisite women are played by beautiful young men.
"Of One’s-Self I Sing" explores the modern-day search for personal identity. Young people now often question traditional western gender display; our approach honors that questioning and quest.
The voiceover script for "Of One’s-Self I Sing" I was adapted from the writings of 19th century American poet Walt Whitman, among the first of his time to celebrate alternate sexual identities, and cites 20th century collector Gertrude Stein’s unforgettable phrase: “a rose is a rose is a rose”.
