PROCESS

The Power of Pleasure takes place in an agency-like classroom setting in which students create fashion communication media; it is also about the history and traditions of such communication.

The class flow alternates between lecture and “making”; each student will create a series of research and strategic documents culminating in a final film project — a 0:45 second spec film for an internationally recognized luxury brand’s fragrance product. Targeted messaging will be developed, assigned and interpreted by the instructor in close collaboration with each student.

For the first part of the course, students will be exposed to the aesthetics and history of the world of style, including fashion photography, fashion history, and fashion films.

Next, students will develop innovative creative strategies for their instructor-assigned luxury brand and fragrance product, leading to a detailed final mood board for their project.

Finally, based on their completed mood boards, students will create sophisticated short communication films made entirely from found imagery and audio. Some students may elect to incorporate original voiceover or graphics.

Class members will be encouraged to develop and express their own personal point of view, which can only be achieved through extensive exposure to the history of the world of style communications, combined with each student’s individual response.
